Following the life of Saint Anthony through Mega Ferreira's eyes and the strength of Marc Gulbenkian's photographs allows us to walk the paths of the saint in his time, feeling the landscape, the heat and the cold, the smells and the sounds, transposing them to the present day.
The saint of the eternal dispute between Lisbon and Padua, but which could also be claimed by Coimbra, Toulouse, Rimini and many other places where he passed and left his mark.
Lisbon is proud to be the place where Santo António was born, which is why the city has never forgotten that this is where it all started. Proclaimed patron saint of Portugal and main patron of the city of Lisbon, Santo António has accumulated over the centuries many other patronages and comes to us today mainly as the saint of emotions and popular devotion, universal feelings that go beyond the borders of language, of cultures and religion.
That's why his image is present all over the world, and where Santo António is, there will always be a little bit of Portugal and the soul of Lisbon.

Preface by Pedro Teotónio Pereira, Museum of Santo António - Lisbon, extracted from the book "Santo António, of Lisbon and Padua - Journey to a unique devotion" by António Mega Ferreira (text) and Marc Sarkis Gulbenkian (photographs), 2019.
